Centerfire Rifle

Target will be the SR-1 target. You can buy them at MidwayUSA here. Match will be a 400 point match, broken into four stages of 100 points, or 10 shots. Since many of us are new to these styles of shooting, competitors will be permitted to shoot two sight-in shots at the target at each stage, timed at one shot per two minutes. The two lowest scoring shots on target will be dropped. This is not a requirement, however, and competitors may shoot only the required shots if they desire. The stages are

  1. Slow fire, standing, unsupported – 10 rounds in 10 minutes, at single SR-1 target @ 100 yards.
  2. Rapid fire, sitting or kneeling – 10 rounds in 60 seconds, at single SR-1 target @ 100 yards.
  3. Rapid fire, prone – 10 rounds in 70 seconds, at single SR-1 target @ 100 yards.
  4. Slow fire, prone – 10 rounds in 10 minutes, at single SR-1 target @ 100 yards.

For center fire rifle there will be two classes. One class for competitors who wish to shoot with open sights, and one class for competitors who wish to shoot with optical sights. Red dot sights, and holographic sights count as optical sights.

Smallbore Rifle

Small bore competition will have three stages of fire. We’ll be using the NRA A-23/3 50 yard targets. Competitors may use other A-23 targets in leiu of the 3 bull target. This will be a 300 point match, with 10 shots at each stage. As with the centerfire match, a competitor may opt to take two sight in shots, at the rate of one shot every two minutes, with the two lowest scoring shots dropped.

  1. Standing, 10 rounds in 10 minutes at 50 yards.
  2. Kneeling or sitting, 10 rounds in 10 minutes at 50 yards.
  3. Prone, 10 rounds in 10 minutes at 50 yards.

Again, one class for open sights, and one class for scoped rifles. The same as with the centerfire match.

Getting Everything Set Up

July 17, 2008

I’m in the process of getting everything set up for the Summer Match of 2008, and getting the Gun Blog Rifles off to a start.  It’s a pity we’ll have reduced time to shoot this match, but you have to start somewhere.  Look for more shortly.
