Summer Match is Closed

September 22, 2008

The Summer 2008 Rifle Match is closed.  I will begin calculating results.  Since this is our first match, I will continue to take entries up until results are posted in a week or so, so if you still need that extra weekend to do some last minute shooting, feel free to take it.

The fall match will be up shortly.  Since fall colors include a lot of red, I’m going to do a Red Army Rifle Match, where we’ll all shoot Kalashnikovs and SKSs in minor variation of our Summer match.  Greart thing about this match will be no reloading!  I’m still trying to decide on a target.  Probably the SR scaled down for 50 yards, but I will try to make a PDF people can just download.  I’m also going to move the smallbore match into 25 yards this time, and we’ll probably make it a standing match so folks can shoot this one indoors if they want.  One string standing, slow fire.  A second string standing rapid fire.

Proposed Rule Addendum

September 21, 2008

Today at the range was kind of busy, so I’d like to propose the following rule addendum that will help make shooting these matches easier.  I think we have to accomodate the fact that we’ll be shooting these matches under non-match range conditions.  Here’s what I propose.  Additions are in italics:

Matches To Be Shot in Single Session

When entering a match, competitors should have shot the entire match in one session.  You may shoot the match as often as you like, and submit your best score, but competitors can’t shoot the match, say, five times, and submit their best target for each stage of the match.  Competitors may take a reasonable break between stages as much time as needed between stages, but matches should be shot as if you were competing in a live match, or as close as possible to competition in a live match.

If a competitor is interrupted by a range command during slow fire, the competitor has the option of stopping his shot clock and continuing the string once the line is hot, or re-shooting the string.  If interrupted during rapid fire, the competitor has the option of re-shooting the string.

I think this will make things a little easier.
